The Mueller Report and the Economic Impact

Millions of headlines were made when Robert Mueller recently released his report.

In his 400 page report, which is somewhat redacted, he details an extremely complex investigation about the Donald Trump Administration and Russia.  It has been alleged by many that Russia sought to assist Trump in becoming elected US President.

First off, just finding the actual report, as opposed to magazine and newspaper reports about this situation is a real challenge.  Apparently not a lot of Americans are interested in reading the actual documents.  We found it here, after a long search.  Thank you to the New York Times!

"Acting Attorney General Rod Rosenstein appointed the Special Counsel and authorized him to conduct the investigation that Comey had confirmed in his congressional testimony, as well as matters arising directly from the investigation"

After flipping through the report and not reading through.  My real feeling is that it does not seem to conclude all that much.  It is as if the report more or less kicks the can down the road.  Does it exonerate President Trump?  In some ways it does.  Does it confirm that President Trump is guilty?  The report does seem to indicate that the Trump Administration attempted to thwart the investigation.

"President Trump reacted negatively to the Special Counsel’s appointment."

Trump "told advisors that it was the end of his presidency, sought to have Attorney General Jefferson (Jeff) Sessions unrecuse from the Russia investigation and to have the Special Counsel removed"

Unfortunately none of this seems... clear to me.  Sadly, I really worry about the economic impact of all of this.  In many ways it might have been better for the economy of the United States if the report was more definitive.  Guilty, Not Guilty.  Mueller's work seems to leave the door open for Congress to seek prostitution of Trump but does not guarantee that they will.

" the investigation established that several individuals affiliated with the Trump Campaign lied to the Office, and to Congress, about their interactions with Russian-affiliated individuals and related matters."

None of this really feels good as an economic viewpoint.  Will the market go up?  Will gold go down?  Tax rates up if Trump get pushed out of the office?

The findings of the report offer no clear answers, conclusions, or really even expectations for the US Economy.  Is it selfish to worry about the economic impact to our wallet from these horrible potential crimes?  Personally I dont' think so.  Honestly it might be the most important thing to be worried about (except the possible Constitutional impact.)

It seems that this situation is far from over...
