The New Credit Freeze Law is Here

Don't think Ice Cube here - think social security numbers and credit scores.

"Consumers will soon be able to freeze their credit files without charge. "

This is incredible news for all of us.  The past costs used to vary widely by states and this will require the big three to own up to the complexities of of freezing your social security numbers.

I have been a proponent of freezing your social security number for almost a decade after first learning about the issue.  As I have pointed out and written about before, if you are over 50 and have no new needs to open up new lines of credit, I have no idea why you would not want to freeze your credit profile with all three bureaus.

If you are younger and tech savvy - I also have no idea why you would not freeze your credit.

Logically if you freeze your credit you will not have to worry about identity theft in the same sense. Of course there are still other identity theft potentials - such as someone filing a fake federal tax return on your behalf, but at least freezing your credit will stop them from opening up new accounts in your name.

Does freezing your credit solve all of your issues?  Nope, but it does solve some and now that it is free everyone should do it.
