Holy Cow on the Wild Fires

Wow, today it would seem that the largest wildfire in California State History is here, according to ABC News

The Mendocino Complex:

The Mendocino "complex" is actually a couple of fires that merged into a entity.  Somewhat hidden and obscured in the news compared with the #wildfires in Redding and out by Yosemite, Clear lake once again seems to be taking the brunt of this years wildfire season in California.

Clear Lake:

The Clear Lake area has had numerous large fires over the course of the last couple of years making this seem so bizarre.   Is Clear Lake doomed for this to happen again?

Questions about The Mendocino Complex and MegaFires:

Why are wildfires getting so much bigger?
Are wildfires in California only going to get bigger?
How will these increasingly large monstrosities get paid for?
Will getting fire insurance and homeowners insurance only get more expensive?
Will getting admitted home insurance start to become impossible?
Will we have to cut down and thin out more trees to prevent this in the future?

Is the state of California going to have to stop people from building farther out into the wood?
Global Warming does it play a part in these large fires?
What to do about it all?

Changes to Come?

Scary it may seem, hopefully this and other huge fires will put out and the public debate will come up with some solutions.   Wildfires may be here to stay but megafires do not have to stay.  There are things that we can do.   Many communities just need a plan.  Perhaps the reintroduction of middle of the road logging combined with the massive thinning of our forests will help.

Perhaps more spending for general fire protection or replanting of new types of trees will also assist.

What will the Mendocino Complex teach us all?   How will we change?  Will this be the inflection point?
